Neil is a graduate of the RNCM and is now a music teacher in Failsworth, Manchester. Neil began playing the Cornet at the age of eleven with the Egglescliffe School Band and progressed to Solo Cornet with the Billingham Silver Brass Band. He also spent 2 years with the Ever Ready Brass Band before moving to Manchester in 1994 to study at the RNCM under Martin Winter, John Hudson and Roger Webster.

Since his move to Manchester, Neil has played with Fodens and JJB Sports (Leyland) Brass Bands before moving to Faireys. He also plays regularly with the Quintessence Brass Quintet. As well as being a Graduate of the RNCM, Neil was also awarded the Harry Mortimer Brass Student of the Year Award.

Neil's hobbies outside Banding include Golf, Tennis, Football and supporting Sunderland.
