Hi all

Just wondered if any of you had memories of my Dad, Colin Mannion, playing with the Fairey Band during the late 50s, 60s and early 70s.

My Mum was listening to BBC GMR recently and heard my Dad credited as solo on a Men of Brass recording. That makes me think that I never really appreciated how well-regarded my Dad was in the banding world.

I met many of my Dad's fellow bandsmen at the funerals of both him and his brother Ian last year. The Elland Band played the Coventry Carol at Ian's funeral and it was moving beyond belief.

My Dad was ill for many years before he passed away. My Mum, my brothers, sister and I tend to remember him as he was during those later years. I'd be really grateful if one of you could remind us of how he was during his prime.

Terrific website ! Any chance of that brilliant young horn player giving some advice to someone trying to play again with a horn made in some foreign land ? Middle D (1st valve) very flat...better with one and three (but tricky). Should I sell my old BMW to buy a Sovereign or Yamaha Maestro ?
Can still "blow" (and could once upon a time play Vinter's quartets) but fondly remember hearing Faireys win the Open at Belle Vue (with Harry Mortimer)three times in the late 40s. Am trying to start a band going again. See:

Good Evening!

I enjoyed visiting your site. I have listened to my old LP of "Men of Brass" many, many times throughout the years, and just stopped by to see how the band is doing these days. I'm glad to see your group and the brass band movement in general so strong! I hope that as time passes the brass band "bug" will continue to catch on here in the States. Mr Dox

Although the Band had a weekend off, Coop, Nige and I, along with Captain Peacock and Mr Evans had the pleasure of your best mate Keith's stag doo.

I also agree David's previous message, they would be the ugliest section of the band - if they turned up once in a while ;-)

Stuart, mum wants to know how come you look so smart and clean now. This seems impossible since only a few years ago you used to by-pass the bathroom due to a fear of water on your face. She say's you look handsome but I say Fairey's seem to recruit the ugliest percussionists in the business. PS you've got my white shirt on.
